This Book: Wisdom (Matthew 5 v13-15)

I think that if Ruth (whose story is told in the Bible's The Book of Ruth) had a bumper sticker, it would be Proverbs 16 v3.

Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be achieved.

That word that gets translated 'commit;' in the original language that word does not just mean just grit your teeth and push through no matter what. "I am committed! I am going to get this done!" That's not what the word means in the original.

Its true meaning is more like 'to surrender something to someone else.' The word actually means 'to roll away.' Like when you're carrying something that is too heavy for you to carry yourself, you let it drop and you roll it to the feet of someone who is stronger. Someone who can help you lift it so you are carrying it together.

EXTRA - Buckle Up

Sunday mornings are busy for me. There are a lot of details to wrangle for any worship service. There are people I want to talk to. Music and preaching and prayer (Oh my!).  Yesterday morning was unique.  I arrived as usual and started getting organised. Our organist and our soloist were in the sanctuary. Do Something That Scares You

Every now and then, do something that scares you. Good advice. Today I went for it. Today was Ash Wednesday. I'd never attended a service. This was the day. First time. I'm a social anxiety suffering introvert (INFJ-A), so going places with people in them is always work. Especially if I don't think I'll know anybody there. Especially if I don't know what will be expected of me when I arrive. I know, everybody experiences that kind of thing, but I always start at a deficit because... people. I have some notes I leave on my office door when I'm going to be out so folks know more or less when to expect me back. Didn't have one for "going to a midweek service at the church down the street" so I went with 'memorial service.' Seemed appropriate.
